These beads and cabochons for the June challenge are courtesy of Fusion Beads!
Have you ever been completely stymied by your beads? In the Bead Soup section of Bead&Button magazine, we frequently share a design challenge in which we are each given the same materials and beads and then turned loose on them. In general, as soon as I see what we have to work with, I find inspiration in one or two of the components, and I'm off and running. However, this fabulous kit stumped me and I don't know why. I love the new Luna Soft cabochons and I love the color purple -- so what's the problem?
I can't tell you how many times I've gotten all these beads out, started off confidently in one direction, only to suddenly realize I don't like it and then have to tear out big sections of it or scrap the whole thing. For now I think I have the cabochon completed to my liking, but the rope is driving me nuts! I've tried twisted tubular herringbone, cubic right-angle weave, and several other techniques, but none of them satisfied me.
I like the cabochon, but I've already ripped out two or three different bails, some fringe, and an extra round or two of embellishments. As you can see here, I've been struggling with the rope, too!
At the moment, I think I'm finally on to something, but you'll have to wait for the June issue to see it. Then again, I may change my mind by next week and find myself back to square one. What do you do when you're stumped by your beads?
