Local bead store treasures

We’re very lucky here at Bead&Button to have several local bead stores. Associate Editor Jane Cruz and I went to Midwest Beads today to pick up supplies for upcoming projects (we’re already working on the December issue!) and a few things for our own stash. Even though we went with a list of things we needed, special sales and unique beads also caught our attention and I came away with a few more things than I had intended to buy.

That’s one of the best things about shopping locally. You never know what you’ll find and there’s always something new! New bead shapes and colors are coming out all the time. I enjoy being able to lay out the beads and see what colors work best with each other before I buy them.

Today, I found these colorful shell beads in assorted sizes and just had to play with them, mixing and matching to find just the right combination. I put these earrings together in only a couple of minutes and they cost less than $5!

Be sure to visit your local bead store and see what treasures you can find! And remember that October is Visit Your Local Bead Shop month. If your local bead store is participating, be sure to check out all their fun bead-and-jewelry-related activities.
